About this blog
Beloved Kitchen is where I’ve been sharing my adventures in food and life since 2016. Living far away from my Canadian hometown, I started this site as a way to document recipes and share updates with my friends and family. Over the last couple years, I’ve taken a step back from blogging because I felt that regularly maintaining the site and social media accounts was becoming a source of stress rather than a source of joy. After a lot of reflection, I’ve decided to keep Beloved Kitchen live but to disconnect it from my social media accounts. You might not see m(any) new posts on my homepage for the foreseeable future, but it doesn’t mean that I won’t ever come back. I do hope that the future will bring back some of that passion for blogging – but if the early 2020’s have taught me anything, it is that life is unpredictable. So for the future, I’m setting out to approach this space with self-compassion, acknowledging that it’s okay if today’s update is the last post I’ll ever publish too.
Over the years, I’ve published a lot of favourite recipes that I regularly visit – so for those of you that also have bookmarked some favourites, I’m leaving it here for you! In the future, I might also explore converting the site into an e-book. I’ll keep you updated through the blog’s homepage.
About me
My name is Katherine and I live in Kilchberg, Switzerland. I am originally from Ottawa, Canada and have Greek and French Canadian roots. I’ve been fortunate to move around quite a bit over the last decade, and have had the chance to live in several different cities Western European cities including Brussels, Nice, London, and now Zurich.
I’m an environmentalist working in Zurich by day, and in my spare time I like to explore culinary delights, garden, create things, take photographs, and spend as much time in nature as possible. My undergraduate and graduate studies in Environmental Science and Climate Change have shaped the way I see food and have given me a greater appreciation of the environmental impacts of our global food production system. I am convinced that if we want to tackle the environmental and climate change challenges we face today, we need to completely re-invent our relationship with food and the way we produce it.
About the name
The kitchen is one of my favourite spaces (second to the great outdoors), and it’s where I spend a lot of my free time. In fact, it is very beloved and dear to me. My last name, Agapitos, takes its roots from a Greek word which means beloved. And that’s the story behind Beloved Kitchen!
